Driver Arrested For DWI After Crashing Into H&R Block

Accident7

Alcohol can cause people to do crazy things, especially if they are driving. A recent crash involving a Houston tax preparation company was allegedly caused by intoxication.

The crash happened on the evening of November 17 in the Spring Branch area of Houston. A driver slammed into the H&R Block located in a strip mall on Hammerly Boulevard, near Blalock Road. Police arrived at the accident scene and found a sedan had crashed through the front of the store. Windows on two sides of the building were smashed out, with the twisted metal frames on the ground.

The ground was covered in pieces of glass and other debris. There was nobody inside the building at the time, as it was closed. The driver, an unidentified woman, was not injured. However, she was detained by police for possible DWI. Her vehicle was towed away. It sustained front-end damage and a shattered windshield.

Crashes Into Buildings

You may not hear too much about incidents where cars crash into buildings. However, they happen more often than you expect. In fact, they happen multiple times daily. Statistics show that cars crash into buildings more than 100 times a day. However, it’s hard to say how much damage or how many injuries or fatalities they cause.

Crashes into buildings have been a consistent problem over the years. The numbers are increasing steadily as people get older and drive heavy cars, resulting in loss of control.

The leading causes of these accidents are operator error and pedal error. Operator error refers to speeding, accelerating too much, or being in the wrong gear. Pedal error means mistaking the gas pedal for the brake.

Crashes into buildings can be attributed to other factors as well, such as drunk driving, traffic accidents, and medical emergencies. A small percentage of these accidents are intentional. Known as “ram raids,” a person drives into a building on purpose to commit a theft.

Weather can be a factor in some cases. There are cases in which cars have slipped on ice and rammed into nearby buildings.

Age is also something to consider. Distracted driving is common among teens and young adults, who are seemingly glued to their phones. They may be texting, sending emails, talking on the phone, searching the internet, or posting on social media, all which can take their focus off the road. This can lead to crashes into buildings. But it’s not just young people. Those who are over the age of 60 account for 44% of drivers who crash into buildings.
