Girl Killed In Pedestrian Crash

The fatal pedestrian accident happened on the afternoon of October 13 in the 9600 block of West Montgomery Road in Houston. A 6-year-old girl, a first-grader at Anderson Academy, was walking home after she got off the school bus. She was crossing the street, but not in a crosswalk, when she was hit by a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
Her mother was on her way to pick her up. She turned a corner and saw her daughter under the truck. She tried to help the girl and while she was able to stand up, she then fell down. The girl was taken to a local hospital, where she later died.
The driver of the truck, an unidentified man, remained at the accident scene. The cause of the crash is unknown. The driver was not intoxicated at the time of the crash. Police are reviewing the driver’s cell phone records to determine if the phone was in use and possibly contributed to the accident. The crash is still under investigation by the Houston Police Department, which will pursue criminal charges if necessary.
While the school district said that the girl was dropped off at 4:44 p.m. that day, the mother said the bus came earlier than expected. Bus drop-off times are inconsistent, with some parents having to wait up to 90 minutes for the bus to come.
