Man Injured After Crashing Into Home
Drivers need to be careful while on the roadway. One wrong move can easily lead to loss of control. A motorist can easily collide with an object — like a house.
This is not a joke; drivers collide with houses all the time. This was what recently happened in Humble, just outside of Houston. An elderly man was hospitalized after crashing into a home.
The accident occurred just before noon on January 18. The man slammed into a home in the 19600 block of Timber Forest Drive. The entire front of the car was damaged in the crash. A portion of the home was also damaged, with a section of bricks making up most of the debris. It also appeared as though 1-2 trees were run over.
It is unknown if anyone inside the home was injured. The severity of the driver’s injuries is unknown
When a Car Hits Your House
Houses are not typically in the middle of the road, but they can still get hit by cars. It’s possible for a driver to go off the road for several reasons:
- Losing control of the vehicle. Drivers can lose control of their vehicles for a variety of reasons. They may be speeding or racing. They may experience steering or brake failure. Motorists may also jump a curb or hit a road hazard, such as an animal, pothole, or debris in the road.
- Drunk driving. When a driver is impaired, they can make serious or even fatal mistakes while behind the wheel. Drunk drivers can easily lose control and hit a house by speeding, not focusing, or missing a turn.
- Falling asleep at the wheel. When a driver is tired, they may fall asleep at the wheel. This will often result in them going off the road and colliding with something — even a person’s home.
So what happens when a vehicle hits your home? The party who is at fault — the driver — will be held liable for any damage. So if the side of your house was damaged, the driver will be forced to pay for it.
However, sometimes drivers don’t have enough insurance to cover the damage they caused. They may not even have any insurance at all. If this is the case, then your homeowners insurance will likely cover it. You would just need to pay the deductible. Contact your insurance company to learn more about your coverage.
