Man Injured in Scooter Crash

Escooter3

Scooters can be a fun way to get from place to place, especially in urban areas where there is a lot of traffic and parking is at a minimum. However, these vehicles are very small and hard for other drivers to see. This makes the risk of an accident very high.

A man was recently injured in a scooter crash in Houston. The incident happened on the afternoon of June 23 near Harrisburg Boulevard and Paige Street. A woman was driving a Mazda east, while the man was riding a scooter and heading west. The woman was making a turn in Houston’s East End when she hit the scooter.

The man was taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries. He was alert as emergency crews arrived and it is believed that he will be OK. The woman was upset about the situation. While it was an accident, she was considered to be at fault and was cited for the crash. Her vehicle suffered significant windshield damage. The accident scene was cleared after a short time.

Scooter Accidents

Electric scooters may seem like a lot of fun, but they come with a lot of dangers. These small vehicles can get easily hit by larger vehicles such as passenger vehicles, trucks, and SUVs. There are two main ways in which riders can suffer injuries: falls and collisions. A fall typically occurs when a rider loses their balance while riding or tries to ride on an uneven surface. Collisions usually happen when a scooter rider crashes into a car, pedestrian, or other object.

Oftentimes, falls result in broken bones or head injuries. Collisions, on the other hand, have much more impact involved, so the injuries are often more serious. Here’s a look at some of them:

  • Sprains and strains. Ankles and knees can get sprained due to an awkward fall or crash. These injuries can be painful and cause mobility issues.
  • Road rash. Falling off the scooter can lead to lacerations due to contact with the ground. This is called road rash and in severe cases, can cause deep wounds and infections.
  • Broken bones. Broken bones are common in scooter accidents. Arms, legs, and wrists are vulnerable to fractures.
  • Head injuries. Most scooter riders do not wear helmets, so head injuries are quite common. Those involved in a crash are likely to suffer traumatic brain injuries, concussions, and other head injuries.
