Motorcyclist Dies In Crash With Sedan
Motorcycles can be fun to ride on a warm Texas day, but dangers still abound. Motorcycles are dangerous vehicles that can lead to fatality if the rider is speeding or not driving properly.
Sadly, this was recently the case in Houston. A motorcycle rider was killed after colliding with a sedan. The fatal accident occurred on the evening of May 2 on Little York Road.
The crash happened in the 5800 block of Little York Road. The motorcycle rider was speeding on Little York Road. A Mercedes sedan was farther down the road traveling in the same direction. The motorcycle approached the sedan as the sedan started to turn onto Maple Leaf Street.
As the motorcycle got closer to the sedan, the rider could not stop in time. He ended up putting the motorcycle down on the ground. The rear end of the motorcycle collided with the back of the sedan, causing the motorcycle rider to be thrown from his bike.
The fire department arrived and attempted first aid on the rider, but he died at the accident scene. The back of the sedan had minor damage. No one in the sedan was seriously injured.
The motorcycle was speeding and it is believed that the high speeds led to the crash. The driver of the sedan was found to not be impaired, with no criminal charges filed. The driver is cooperating with police.
The investigation continues. Law enforcement officials are looking for video of the crash. They may do a reconstruction to determine the speeds of each vehicle before the accident.
Speed and Motorcycle Crashes
Motorcycle accidents can occur due to a variety of factors, but speed is often cited as a major contributing factor. Motorcycles have just two wheels, making them less stable than cars. When traveling at high speeds, this increases the risk of losing control and crashing. Additionally, the force of impact in a motorcycle crash is significantly greater than that in a car accident, which means the injuries are often more severe.
Speeding on a motorcycle can also be deadly. Speeding accounts for approximately one-third of fatal motorcycle crashes in 2019. The risk of a fatal crash increases significantly as speed increases.
Motorcycle riders can stay safe by following speed limits. They should also adjust their speed to match road and weather conditions. Wearing appropriate protective gear, such as a helmet and protective armor, can greatly reduce the risk of serious injury in the event of a crash.
