Several Killed In Multiple Houston Car Accidents
October 4 was a deadly day in Houston, as several people were killed in multiple car accidents across the city. Three people were killed in four different crashes.
The first accident happened that morning on the Westpark Tollway, near Synott Road and Eldridge Parkway. A bicyclist was hit by a car for unknown reasons. The rider was killed in the crash. It is unknown if the bicyclist was trying to cross the freeway at the time of the crash. Police are warning bicyclists to be careful when riding on the freeway, as the motor vehicles have the right of way and are often traveling at high speeds.
Next came two separate incidents on the Gulf Freeway. The first happened near Woodridge Drive, when a woman crossed the freeway. The driver of a pickup truck stopped to avoid hitting her and that caused a chain-reaction crash. Four vehicles were involved. Seconds later, another vehicle hit the woman. That driver fled the accident scene. Police are reviewing the footage from the pickup truck driver’s dash cam to see if the driver can be located. The woman is currently in critical condition.
The next accident happened on the Gulf Freeway, near Edgebrook Drive, when a man was running in the northbound lanes. He was hit by two vehicles and died at the accident scene. Both drivers stopped at the crash site. Tests were performed but neither was intoxicated.
Another crash happened at Ashcroft and Dashwood drives. A 17-year-old was speeding when his vehicle’s tire went into a ditch. He overcorrected and lost control, causing the vehicle to roll over several times. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He died at the accident scene. It is believed that alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Pedestrians on Highways
Being a pedestrian can be scary when there are a lot of vehicles in an area. This is especially true on highways, where these vehicles are often traveling at high speeds. A pedestrian who gets hit by a car can face catastrophic injuries and even death.
Pedestrians are often hit while crossing the highway. In many cases, they are crossing the road to get help for their disabled behavior but in some cases, the pedestrians are acting irrationally. They may be suicidal or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Even when a pedestrian is on the side of the road, they can still get hit. This is especially true at night, when visibility is reduced. Also, in some cases, motorists see someone on the side of the road and actually drive toward them and hit them.
