Woman, Baby Killed As Vehicle Falls Off Overpass
Drivers need to be careful when on the roadways. One wrong or unexpected move can cause an accident. Another driver may collide with another vehicle, run off the road, or even go off an overpass.
The last one is an especially scary and deadly situation. This recently happened in Houston, killing a mother and her infant. Her 3-year-old child is fighting for his life in a local hospital. The fatal crash occurred on the morning of February 15 on 14101 W. Grand Parkway, near U.S. 290.
Three vehicles were involved in the crash. The accident happened when a vehicle slammed on its brakes and almost stopped while taking the exit ramp off SH-99 onto U.S. 290. The driver of a Toyota Camry behind it could not stop in time and veered to the left. However, there were barrels dividing U.S. 290 and SH-99, so she veered again.
That was when she hit a Toyota 4Runner with a 30-year-old woman and two children inside. The impact caused the 4Runner to hit the wall. It then rolled off the overpass onto the ground below. It landed on its roof and rolled again, landing on its wheels.
The Camry also hit a Volkswagen sedan. Both of those drivers were not injured. They remained at the accident scene to talk to police.
The 30-year-old woman driving the Toyota 4Runner died at the accident scene. The two children — a 3-year-old boy and a 9-month-old boy — were in the back seat of the vehicle. They were taken to a local hospital. The 9-month-old boy later died. The 3-year-old boy is currently in critical condition.
The driver who allegedly slammed on their brakes did not stay at the accident scene. Police are still trying to determine fault. The investigation is ongoing.
